The VPI FAST-24 Multihead Precision Glass Scriber, upon electronic command, repositions 3 scribeheads and the gantry completes one stroke in 4 seconds. Four seconds; three scribes!
The theta table rotates, the scribeheads reposition, and the gantry returns home. Six scribes are now on the glass, in a total elapsed time of 8 seconds!

FAST-2400S: The FAST-2400S is similar to the FAST-2410 machine with several exceptions. The FAST-2400S is primarily designed for Shapes scribing (non-linear parts) and incorporates three specially designed scribeheads that deliver exquisite accuracy in virtually any contour. Additionally, the Fine "Y" Adjust mechanism allows three calibrated scribeheads to produce patterned shapes scribing with unparalleled shapes production. VPI's unique scribehead design provides high speed scribing and, in most cases, a uniform scribe speed. Fillet-corner rectangles, where the radius is 6mm or greater, may be scribed at 100-300mm (4-12" times 3 heads) per second! We are not aware of any other Shapes Scribing Machine that is capable of providing comparable Shapes scribing speed.
FAST-2400S with Cameras: This machine is identical to the FAST-2400S except that a camera gantry has been added. The camera gantry provides multihead shapes scribing and single head patterned shapes scribing where alignment to targets is required. This machine is very much in demand for customers that normally scribe non-patterned shapes products, yet have an occasional need to scribe patterned shapes products such as LCD's or solar cells. Manual alignment is necessary, however, motion control system are limited to eight. FAST-2410: The FAST-24 scribers feature a single scribe gantry with a rotating theta table. Gantry motion is under the control of two linear motors. Additionally, the Fine "Y" Adjust mechanism allows three calibrated scribeheads to produce patterned shapes scribing with unparalleled shapes production. Three scribeheads are independently controlled in the X Axis with individual servo motors. Standard scribe placement accuracy for the FAST-2410 is ± 50 microns (0.002") and scribe speeds up to one meter (40") per second are possible. VPI Model numbers are explained below:
F-A-S-T is an acronym for Flying Adjustable Scribe Technology Table Size: 24 inches (600mm) standard, 26 inches (650mm) maximum "10" Cameras included with manual or semiautomatic alignment available. "10V" Cameras included with fully automatic alignment available.
During the past 10 years, the FAST-2410 and the FAST-2410V machines have become the flagship of many "high production" flat panel display companies. This is a direct result of the reliability, production capacity, and consistent scribe placement accuracy which is achievable with these machines.
FAST-2410S: The FAST-2410S combines the shapes capabilities of the FAST-2400S and the semi-automatic align features of the FAST-2410 to provide shapes and linear scribing. Additionally, the Fine "Y" Adjust mechanism allows three calibrated scribeheads to produce patterned shapes scribing with unparalleled shapes production. This provides Flat Panel Display and various Glass Cutting Companies with exceedingly powerful programming, process flexibility, and high throughput. This single gantry machine utilizes three scribeheads and provides both linear and shapes scribing with patterned or non-patterned products. Alignment to fiducials (targets) is semi-automatic with patterned products (which have fiducials) such as round LCD's, Polygon Solar Cells, etc., and not required for non-patterned products such as mirrors. FAST-2410SV: The FAST-2410S-V is equipped with a Cognex Vision System that provides pattern recognition and fully automatic alignment. Additionally, the Fine "Y" Adjust mechanism allows three calibrated scribeheads to produce patterned shapes scribing with unparalleled shapes production. The FAST-2410S-V is VPI's most sophisticated Precision Glass Scribing machine in the 650mm size
FAST-2410V Otherwise identical to the FAST-2410, this machine features a Cognex Vision System. The benefit is immediate and consistently accurate pattern recognition and auto align. The improved alignment accuracy allows VPI to offer scribe placement accuracy of ± 25 microns (0.001"), as an option, over the entire 650 x 650mm scribe stage.
